Mumbai, Dec 25: Vivek Center for Interdisciplinary Research (VCIR), Pune has organized a course of six lectures, dealing with various facets of, what is well known as 'The China phenomenon'. The Lecture Series will be available online from Dec 30, 2020.
Ever since China embarked on its economic reforms programme in early eighties of the Twentieth Century, it has never quite hidden its ambitions to become the pre-eminent power and eventually the only Super Power, in the world. However, it chose to maintain a rather low profile on the world scene, until such time as it acquired the requisite economic clout and compelled the world to acknowledge its pre-eminence.
Now, in itself there is nothing wrong for any nation to harbor such ambitions and tirelessly pursue its goal. The problem with China however is its metamorphoses, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, into a brazenly revisionist state embarking upon an expansionist course almost throughout the world. However, China refuses to be a part of the existing or any other rules based international order, unless the rules are set by it.
China’s present conduct therefore, poses an unprecedented challenge before the world in general and India in particular, which can only be compared with the challenge posed by the rise of Nazi Germany under Adolph Hitler, initially to the European powers and eventually to the entire world, in the early twentieth century.
The VCIR Pune has organized the 'China : Rise of the hegemon' lecture series based on the same phenomena that China is currently exhibiting. The topics that are included in the course are ‘China’s Civilizational History’, ‘China under Mao Zedong’, ‘Deng Xiaoping and Economic Rise of China’, ‘China’s Strategic Profile’, ‘Generation and Projection of Soft Power’, and ‘Xi Jinping and his China Dream’.
The entire lecture series that VCIR Pune has organized, consists of six lectures roughly of an hour and a half each, along with the reading or reference material will be put on Google Drive of VCIR. The lecture series Google Drive link will be sent to the participants who have paid the registration fees.
The lecture series will be presented by Adv. Kishore Jawle, who is a renowned law practitioner in the Bombay High Court, and a well-versed scholar on various topics related to Law, International Affairs, Polity, Constitution, Judicial History and several others. His research papers, talks and lectures on certain China specific themes have claimed many accolades on national and international fora.
The students as well as research scholars, diplomats and experts in field of International Affairs, Strategic Affairs, Political Sciences, Social Sciences and other fields, who are truly interested in the subject of 'The China Phenomenon' have been invited by VCIR to attend the lecture series.
