Lucknow, September 4: By the end of this year, Uttar Pradesh will start work on a medical university in memory of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. State Cabinet on Tuesday approved the transfer of 50 acres of land for the proposed Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University to be set up in Lucknow. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lok Bhavan.
"During a press conference after the cabinet meeting, minister and spokesperson of state government Shrikant Sharma told reporters that the Medical University will be constructed in the 50-acre area near Chak Ganjariya farm in Lucknow. Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University will serve as an umbrella institution for all medical and dental colleges in the state.
To pave way for it, the state cabinet cleared the Uttar Pradesh State Medical University ordinance 2018 a few months back. The move aims at raising the quality of medical education in the state. All government and private medical colleges along with dental colleges will come under the ambit of Atal University. All upcoming medical or dental colleges will also come under it.
