Lt Governor Anil Baijal inaugurates rose garden in Dwarka ; DDA says committed to increase green cover

New Delhi, August 06: Allowing an open access to the capital citizens to the inherent natural features, Lt Governor Anil Baijal in Dwarka on Monday inaugurated a rose garden with 90 varieties of the ornamental plant. The garden contains 24 scented varieties of roses that have been brought from West Bengal’s Kolkata.

 
 
The Lieutenant Governor also launched tree planting festival named 'Van Mahotsav' of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in Dwarka. As part of the new initiative, the DDA has also associated the school children of various schools of Delhi of Class VI and above to plant and adopt a tree and to place name plaque on the adopted tree to inculcate the sense of belongingness.
Baijal tweeted “Inaugurated Rose garden, Sector-16, Dwarka spread over 15 acres with 30 rose varieties & planted sapling to kick start DDA’s Van Mahotsav Program. DDA will plant over 4 lakh saplings of native species to increase Delhi’s green cover. My best wishes to @official_dda!”
 
“The civic body has taken a slew of measures to make Delhi greener and pollution-free. The DDA has played a key role in overall development and management of its green spaces, with conscious efforts towards the development of open spaces as regional parks, city forests, district parks, community parks, neighbourhood parks,” the civic body said in a statement.
 
According to the DDA statement, the rose garden is spread over an area of 6.5 acres. It has nearly 783 small and big parks, and six biodiversity parks under its jurisdiction.
