New Delhi, Aug. 26: Modi government is always committed to reform the entire power sector of India. Now, taking the commitment of ‘Power to All’ on another level, Centre took another great leap in power sector.

On the recommendations, the center is going to create a high-level committee for changing the structure and system of power sale and purchase in the country.

As per the official reports, the move is part of the government’s key agenda of bringing major reforms in the power sector including uninterrupted 24x7 power supply to consumers.

The committee led by special power secretary Sanjiv Nandan Sahai will recommend reforms required in the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and for increasing competitiveness in the power markets.

This will also include representatives from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), Central Electricity Authority of India (CEAI), Power System Operation Corporation and the Power Ministry. The committee will also study the present system of the power sale and purchase, which is predominantly governed by the PPAs, power trading and another way of transactions in purchase and sale of power. It will also examine whether the PPAs need to be completely restructured.

A report will be prepared by the group to make recommendations within six months.
