Big Leap Towards Mission #Gaganyaan! ISRO Signs MoU with IAF for Crew Selection

New Delhi, May 30: India has proved to World that ‘WE DO WHAT WE DETERMINE’ and India’s Space Missions are the best examples of it. We are very fast heading towards the accomplishment of our most ambitious ‘Gaganyaan’ project, the mission of sending humans into the space in 2022 – the 75th year of India’s Independence. On Tuesday Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) took a big leap by signing an MoU with the Indian Air Force (IAF) for the crew selection and training for the prestigious Gaganyaan Programme.


 

On May 27, the agreement was signed by Assistant chief of Air Staff (Space Operations) Air Vice Marshal R.G.K. Kapoor and Gaganyaan Project Director R. Hutton in the presence of the space agency’s Chairman K. Sivan. The crew selection and training will be conducted at ISRO’s Human Space Flight Centre, opened on January 30 adjacent to its headquarters in the city, to develop technologies for the manned space missions.

 

Gaganyaan is the first crewed spacecraft under Indian human Spaceflight Programme accepted by the Prime Minister on 15th August 2018 after successful development of building blocks, space-capsule, pad abort test, safe crew ejection mechanism, flight suit of the craft by India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day address on August 15, 2018 announced that the space agency will send three astronauts, including a woman, in a capsule into space around the earth’s orbit for a week-long rendezvous by December 2021 or 2022.


 
India’s 9023 crore ambitious project which involves sending a 3-member crew on board a heavy rocket to an altitude of 350-400 km and orbit around the planet for conducting experiments in space during a week-long voyage. ISRO on January 30 opened a Human Space Flight Centre adjacent to its headquarters here to develop technologies for manned space mission. The Human Flight Space Centre will also develop engineering systems for crew survival in space and sustained human space flight missions.
