Blessed with beauty, India’s organic state ‘Sikkim’ celebrates its statehood day

Gangtok, May 16: Blessed with abundant natural beauty and termed as the first state with organic products, Sikkim has marked a significant presence in India. Celebrating its 43rd statehood day, today, the entire nation pours in wishes of beauty, development and prosperity.

 

It was on this day in 1975 that Sikkim had officially become a state under the Union of India and Kazi Lhendup Dorjee became its first chief minister.

President Ram Nath Kovind greeted the state on the occasion and extended his wishes to the people of the state. "My best wishes to all the residents of this beautiful state for a bright and prosperous future."

 

A grand function was held at the Samman Bhawan auditorium in the capital town where Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling highlighted the achievements of his government. Sikkim Governor N Shrinivas Patil speaking at the same programme greeted the people of Sikkim on the occasion.

He congratulated Pawan Kumar Chamling for setting a new record of being the longest serving chief minister. 67-year-old Chamling became the longest serving chief minister on April 29 this year when he completed 23 years 4 months and 17 days at the helm of Sikkim surpassing late Jyoti Basu’s record.
