Mizoram gears up for ‘Desh Ka Maha Tyohaar’ with ‘Naari Shakti’; slates in 117 women polling stations with women security
Aizawl, April 8: Rolling up the sleeves and gearing up for the much awaited ‘Desh Ka Maha Tyohaar’, each state is taking up efforts to ensure safe and sound polling in every region. Giving away major women power goals, Mizoram will have 117 all women polling stations manned by women officials and women security staff for the lone Lok Sabha seat in the State.
Mizoram chief electoral officer (CEO) Ashish Kundra said that this step has been taken due to the huge positive response in the State Assembly polls held last year. The CEO said had visited the districts of the state to check out the preparations going on for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The Chief Electoral Officer further added that all the districts have completed commissioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) in the State. He also added that the third and final round of training of polling officials would be completed by Monday. 256 voter awareness forums were formed across the State and various young voters’ clubs were also formed by social media enthusiasts.
A few polling parties going too far and remote polling stations would leave from the respective district headquarters on Tuesday, most of the polling parties would be despatched on Wednesday.
Kundra said that six companies of Central and Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel collected from within the State will be deployed soon. He also added that six companies of CAPF personnel had been deployed earlier too. The CEO also added that wireless communication facilities would be set up in remote areas where mobile network is not present or is poor.
The Mizoram CEO said that southernmost Lawngtlai district will get wireless communication facilities as 50 per cent of the polling stations there do not have mobile network. He also said that there is only one polling station in Lawngtlai district where boats have to be used by polling officials as the village is inaccessible by road.
