Festival wishes to strengthen the bonds of love, affection and spirit of fraternity in society says Prez Kovind

New Delhi, April 6: Traditional New Year is being celebrated across the country today. These festivals mark the onset of New Year and the warmer months and they reflect values of prosperity and well-being. Let the spirit of joy and happiness signified by these festivals pervades the heart of every Indian. In a message, President Ramnath Kovind said, “May these festivals strengthen the bonds of love and affection in our society as well as the spirit of fraternity among people across the nation”.



“Greetings and good wishes to fellow citizens on Chaitra Sukladi, Ugadi, Gudi Padava, Cheti Chand, Navreh and Sajibu Cheiraoba. May this occasion bring happiness, peace and prosperity to people in various regions of our country” greeted President.

President Kovind said Greetings of Ugadi to a brotherhood of Karnataka - Kannadigas who live around the globe.


Yugadi is the New Year's Day for the people of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It is festively observed in these regions on the first day of the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Chaitra.

The festival is celebrated with a lot of fervour and joy in all the three states and is the perfect occasion to get together with friend and family. On this day, people clean their houses and make Kolamulus or Rangoli which are colourful designs on the floor to decorate their houses.


The festival marks the arrival of spring and harvest, but in Sindhi community, it also marks the birth of Uderolal in the year 1007, after they prayed to Hindu god Varun Dev to save them from the persecution by a tyrannical ruler.

President wishes Ugadi greetings to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh brothers and sisters, all Telugus in the world. I hope this festival will bring you happiness and prosperity


Gudi Padawa is being celebrated in Maharashtra it is celebrated for welcoming of spring. It also marks a special Gudhi flag garlanded with flowers, mango and neem leaves, topped with upturned silver or copper vessel, street processions, dancing and festive foods.


In his message, Vice President Naidu said, all these festivals celebrated across the country with different names and customs, reflect the composite culture and rich heritage of India.
