February 26: “Calmness in preparation but Boldness in execution, this should be the watchword during the moments of crisis”, a quote by Swatantryaveer Savarkar, who must be feeling proud of his ‘Matrubhumi’ today. The valorous freedom fighter surely would have applauded how boldly India retaliated their fallen in the Pulwama attack.
India is remembering great fighter leader Veer Savarkar today on his 53rd Death Anniversary and what better tribute can we give him? Giving a befitting reply which the entire nation waited for, in just 21 minutes, atleast 12 mirage of 2000 Indian Fighter jets struck JeM terrorist camp across the LoC and completely destroyed it today at 3:30 am. It has been assessed that around 200 to 300 terrorists have been slayed by the Indian Army, 12 days after the ghastly Pulwama terror attack.
Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, more commonly known as Veer Savarkar is noted as one of the most prominent revolutionary freedom fighter and exponent of Hindutva. Savarkar, who was a person who is jack of all in literal senses, as he was also a social reformer, lawyer, poet, philosopher, playwright, and a well-admired political leader, was popularly known and admired for being an aggressive freedom fighter.
Born on May 23rd, 1883, Veer Savarkar is widely known for the heroic story of his famous escape from a ship he was imprisoned in and swimming across the ocean only to be captured again. Being said that, Savarkar's life was full of ups and downs. Veer Savarkar was the creator of the term ‘Hindutva’, emphasising its distinctiveness from Hinduism; which he associated with political communalism.
Veer Savarkar was the first poet in the world who was deprived of pen and paper in a jail. He improvised and used thorns and nails to compose his writings on prison walls. He gifted India with his inspirational literature such as ‘Mazi Janmathep’ (My Life Sentence), ‘Kamala’, ‘1857- First War of Independence’, ‘Hindutva’.
Swatantryaveer Savarkar is the one who taught Indians to love the Nation in his beautiful words,
“Oh Motherland
Sacrifice for you is like life
Living without you is death”
His words are still echoed by Indians after 53 years of his ‘Atmaarpan’. Even after his death at age 83, two thousand RSS workers gave his funeral procession a guard of honour. In 1970, Indira Gandhi’s government issued a postal stamp in honour of Veer Savarkar. Also, the airport at Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar’s Capital, is named as ‘Veer Savarkar International Airport’.
And today, following sounds of Veer Savarkar’s bold words even in ‘Naya Hindustan’, Indian Air Force avenged the martyrs in the Pulwama Attack in a courageous move. What else can we say but a true salute to these Heroes of our mother India!
