R. Sitharaman, Executive Director and State head of Indian oil said, “Domestic LPG penetration in Tamil Nadu has increased to 97.6% from 80.08% in April 2018. Thanks to Ujjwala Yojana which provides domestic LPG connections to people from the economically weaker section of the society”.
Further, he added, “ Domestic LPG coverage in India before the scheme is 62%, Government wanted to achieve 5 crore new connections under PMUY before the end of this financial year”.
S. Kumar, Deputy General Manager (LPG), Chennai Region, IOC, said "Now, under the expanded PMUY-II, families who don’t have connections are being covered. If they satisfy a list of 14 criteria, including not possessing agricultural land over 2.5 acres, they do not have someone working in the government and does not own a 2/3/4 wheeler among others, they would qualify for the scheme".
