Celebrating literature, an interesting expression of humanity! Sahitya Akademi announces Awards in 23 languages

New Delhi, December 19: Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Award- 2019 in 23 languages yesterday. Indian politician, writer and Congress member Shashi Tharoor won the Sahitya Akademi Award 2019 today. The Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Thiruvananthapuram won the prestigious award for his book An Era of Darkness: The British Empire in India that was published in 2016.

 
On December 18, 2019, Sahitya Akademi shared a press release announcing its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 23 languages. In Hindi, Nand Kishore has been awarded for his Poetry ‘ Chheelate Hue Apne Ko’ and in English Dr Shashi Tharoor has been awarded for his Non-Fiction ‘An Era of Darkness’.
In Tamil, Cho Dharman has been awarded for his Novel ‘Sool’ and in Gujarati, Ratilal Borisagar has awarded for his Essays ‘Mojama Revu Re’. Meanwhile, in Sanskrit, Penna Madhusudan will get the award for his Poetry ‘Prajnachakshusham’ and in Urdu, Shafey Kidwai will be awarded for his Biography ‘Sawaneh-E-Sir Syed: Ek Bazdeed’.
 
However, Novelist and former AGP Rajya Sabha member Jayashree Goswami Mahanta on Wednesday said "I am not as happy as I should be with the news of winning the Sahitya Akademi award" and promised to distribute the prize money among the families of those killed during anti-citizenship law protests in Assam.
