UP: Semi high-speed rail corridor to be built from Agra to Varanasi

Lucknow, November 29: Enhancing the public transportation in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government is now going ahead with the semi-high speed rail corridor project. Only the passenger trains in this corridor will run at high speed. It will be a corridor parallel to the Agra Lucknow Expressway and Purvanchal Expressway.


 

The government will choose Righteous as the advisory company for this. This company will undertake a detailed survey, alignment, preparation of project report and determination of necessary services related to this project.

A decision in this regard was taken at a board meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of UPDA CEO Avnish Awasthi. The final decision on the name of the advisory company will be taken at the cabinet meeting.

This project is from the Ministry of Railways. It will be built under a joint venture of the UP government. For this, the Institute of Technical Cooperation Center will give the rights. The project is 800 km. It will go to Ghazipur and Varanasi via Agra, Lucknow. This 800 km journey is set to be completed in three hours through a semi-high speed train. Freight trains will not run on it.

In the board meeting, Avnish Awasthi said that work will start soon on both the Bundelkhand Expressway and the Gorakhpur Link Express. CM Yogi Adityanath has discussed the project with Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.
