Floods continue causing havoc in Bihar; MeT Dept forecasts heavy rain at many places in next two days

Patna, October 3: Heavy rains and floods have caused havoc in the state of Bihar. Floods furry continue in 15 districts including Patna, Bhagalpur, Samastipur, Bhagalpur, and Vaishali. Over 22 lakh people are reeling under the impact of floods. 67 people have so far died in flood-related incidents throughout the state. The state government has announced an ex-gratia of rupees four lakh to the next of the kin of deceased. Met Department has warned of heavy rain in several districts including in Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai and Khagaria during the next two days.


 

Surging water of several rivers including Ganga, Sone, Punpun and Bagmati are spreading in new areas. These rivers are flowing above the danger mark and the water level is still increasing. Punpun is flowing above three-meter danger levels and posing threat to the embankment. Affected people are migrating to safer places. They have taken shelter on embankments and national highways. Over one lakh people in low lying areas of Patna have been shifted to safer places. About two lakh people are still facing worst-ever water logging in the state capital.

Over one thousand boats and 23 NDRF teams have been pressed into service in different parts of the state for relief works. 45 relief camps have been set up and 324 community kitchens are providing food to the flood-affected people.
