Stepping out to create a change, ECI indicates voter’s turnout to 44% in Maharashtra and 53% in Haryana till 5pm

Mumbai, October 21: As the time ticks, voicing their call for change; people are stepping out creating a difference for a better future by casting their vote for Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly poll. Polling is underway for 90 seats of Haryana and 288 assembly constituencies of Maharashtra. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has stated that the estimated voter turnout in Haryana was 53.04% by 5 pm, while that in Maharashtra was 44.32%.

 

While Maharashtra has been seeing intermittent showers in the past week, that has not stopped the Election Commission of India (ECI) from facilitating people to vote in the state Assembly polls on Monday. In a heart-warming gesture, voters in a polling booth in Kambleshwar village were facilitated to approach their rain-drenched polling booths in an innovative way.

The electoral fate of around 4400 candidates [1169 in Haryana and 3237 in Maharashtra] will be sealed in EVMs by the voters today. In Maharashtra, the 'Mahayuti' alliance of Saffron parties BJP-Shiv Sena and smaller parties are against the 'Maha-agadhi' led by the Congress and the NCP. A total of 8,98,39,600 people, including 4,28,43,635 women, are eligible to vote.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling. More than three lakh personnel from state police and central forces have been deployed in the state. Nearly 1.83 crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in Haryana. Out of them around 99 lakh are men and 85 lakh women.

More than 75,000 security personnel have been deployed in the state to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling. Counting of votes in both the states will be taken up on October 24.
