Abu Dhabi, October 1: “A new inning begins now! Looking forward to life as a private citizen after 36 years as a diplomat. It’s been privilege to represent our country, serve our people,” Indian Ambassador at UAE Navdeep Singh Suri expressed yesterday as he retired from the Embassy.

An elegant farewell was organised yesterday in UAE to wish the ambassador for his successful and remarkable career. Navdeep Singh Suri is departing for Delhi today with a deep sense of satisfaction. Congratulations and best wishes are being showered via twitter for completion of an era.

Have a glance through his bright career:
Born in 1959 in Amritsar, Panjab, Navdeep Singh Suri is the grandson of acclaimed Punjabi novelist and poet Nanak Singh. He did his schooling from St. Francis School and then completed his master's degree in economics from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar
Suri joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1983 and has served in India's diplomatic missions in Cairo, Damascus, Washington DC, Dar es Salaam and London and as India's Consul General in Johannesburg. He has later headed the West Africa and Public Diplomacy divisions at the Ministry of External Affairs at New Delhi as a Joint Secretary. His tenure as Joint Secretary of Public Diplomacy divisions is particularly distinguished for his effort to create MEA's improved interaction with citizens through use of social media platforms and Internet.

Suri's stint as Indian Ambassador to Egypt started in June 2012. As the Ambassador to Egypt, his major challenge was a successful March 2013 state Visit of Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi to India. Morsi visited India from the March 18 to 21, 2013 as the head of a high-level delegation of Egyptian ministers and business leaders, at a time when trade between these two countries has witnessed a record 30 percent jump.
On February 26, 2015, Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced its decision to appoint Suri as India's next High Commissioner to Australia.
In the last month, the retired ambassador was bestowed the First Class Order of Zayed II by the UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in recognition of his efforts during his tenure and his contribution to the development and strengthening of friendly relations and co-operation between the two friendly countries.
