Panaji, September 25: Goa cabinet on Monday got two new ministers as they have been allocated new portfolios. Curchorem BJP MLA Nilesh Cabral has been allocated the power, non-conventional energy, law and judiciary, and legislative affairs portfolios. Mormugao BJP MLA Milind Naik will be in charge of the urban development, social welfare, and Provedoria portfolios.
Cabral and Naik were sworn in as ministers by the governor Mridula Sinha at Raj Bhavan at Dona Paula near Panaji on Monday.
They replaced ailing Francis D'Souza, who was the urban development minister; and Pandurang Madkaikar, who was the power minister.
On Sunday, Goa got good news that their true leader and Chief Minister of the state Manohar Parrikar will continue to be their government’s sailor. This was declared by BJP President Amit Shah by his tweet.
Shah has said that Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will continue the leadership of the state government. In a tweet on Sunday, Shah said that the decision was taken after consulting the Goa state BJP core committee.
He added that changes in the cabinet and some portfolios would be undertaken soon.
CM Parrikar is currently receiving medical treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. Recently, BJP central team met the core committee of Goa BJP unit in Panaji to discuss the current political situation in the state arising due to the prolonged illness of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
They held meetings with union minister for Ayush Shripad Naik, Goa BJP president, and Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar, and other party members. Members of the alliance partners of the current ruling state government Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), Goa Forward Party (GFP) and three independent MLAs also met the central team.
Meanwhile, leader of the opposition Congress Chandrakant Kavlekar had demanded that the BJP-led government be dismissed due to its non-functioning and Congress be given an opportunity to form the government as the single largest party.
In return, BJP spokesperson Dattaprasad Naik had said that we challenge Congress to do that with the even simple majority.
Currently, the 40-member Goa assembly has 16 Congress MLAs; 14 BJP MLAs; three MLAs each of MGP and GFP; one MLA from Nationalist Congress Party; and three independents.
