During his three-day visit, Rajapaksa is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NSA Ajit Doval. In 2014, the Former Sri Lankan President had graced the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Rajapaksa is credited for his decisiveness against the extremist organization LTTE, a Tamil militant organization behind the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
On his arrival, when quizzed about the current developments in Tamil Nadu regarding the release of all seven life convicts in connection with Rajiv Gandhi’s murder, terming it as the internal legal matter of India, Rajapaksa said that Indian government should take the final call on the same.
On the other hand, the Tamil Nadu government has recommended the release of all seven life convicts. All of them are behind the bars for the last 27 years.
