Celebrating 70 years of strong diplomatic relations, Sushma Swaraj and Serbian counterpart vows to boost trade, defence ties

New Delhi, May 4: Creating a strong base of relationship with every country, India has emerged as a leader of cordial relation with many countries. Increasing substantial trade and commerce, India’s relation with Serbia has been very close and historic. Strengthening ties Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, visited India on the invitation of Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj.

 

Expanding hands of warms hugs, India and Serbia celebrated 70 years of strong diplomatic relations.


During the meeting, both the minister discussed wide range of topics pertaining to bilateral ties, regional and global issues of common interest. Viewing the progress chart, the two countries have made development in the field of trade & investment, agriculture & food processing, science & technology, information technology, defence, health & pharmaceuticals, culture and tourism.


An Agreement on cooperation in the field of culture, sports, youth and mass media was signed by the two Ministers.

Showing keen interest in intensifying economic cooperation, several Indian companies have invested in Serbia in sectors such as farm equipment (tractors), food processing and pharmaceuticals.

Extending a friendly gesture, India has extended e-Visa facility to Serbian nationals. These initiatives are expected to boost tourism between the two countries and facilitate greater people-to-people contact.

In a lecture at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), Davic said Serbia can learn a lot from initiatives such as Make in India, Start Up India, Smart Cities and Skill India. He said Indian firms can take advantage of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Serbia has with Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakshtan and Turkey.

Increasing economic activities is in mutual interest of both countries.
