Gujarat CM Rupani launches drone-based surveillance system for tracking illegal mining

Gandhinagar, May 22: In order to curb the illegal mining of minerals and sands, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Monday launched a drone-based surveillance ecosystem to keep a close track on riverbeds across the state. The Trinetra Drone Surveillance System, crafted by the state government to monitor the illegal activities especially in the sensitive districts of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Sabarkantha.

For the first time, the state government has brought the technological intervention in order to curtail illegal mining. The state government is also working on a plan to bring an area of two lakh square kilometers under the cover of Trinetra Drone Surveillance System.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that newly launched Surveillance System will address the issues associated with illegal sand mining. He announced that a well-equipped central command and control room would be arranged to link up other departments like Water Resources and Road and Building. According to state officials, initially, river-beds of Sabarmati, Orsang, Tapi, Bhadar and other sensitive regions will be covered through Trinetra Drone Surveillance System.
