Panaji, May 2: Absence of CM Manohar Parrikar due to his ill health has led to an extension of a three-member ministerial panel to govern the state.

Goa Governor Mridula Sinha formally issued an office memo on Monday to extend till May-end the term this panel.

"The Chief Minister is pleased to direct that the arrangements made for a transaction of business of the government... in his absence on medical grounds shall be continued for a further period from May 1 to May 31 on the same terms," the memo informed state government officials.

The committee's term was set to expire on Monday.

CM Parrikar is undergoing advanced treatment in the US. And before he left for the US on March 8, Parrikar had designated a committee of Francis D'Souza (BJP), Sudin Dhavalikar (MGP) and Vijai Sardesai (Goa Forward) to oversee the day-to-day administration in his absence.

During the last extension, the chief minister had increased the financial powers of the CAC from Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore.

Since February, the Goa CM has been unwell. Parrikar was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on February 15 and discharged on February 22. On the same day he returned to Goa and presented the state budget in the Assembly, but the session was truncated to only four days owing to his illness.
