Hyderabad, April 25: Congratulations to the energy efficient state! East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh becomes India’s first LED Street Light. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced the good news saying that East Godavari district is India’s only district to have 100% LED bulbs for street lights.

Addressing the people in Dwarapudi, CM Naidu informed that around 27 lakhs LED street lights will be set up in the state by October 2. The state has become 100% ODF in last four years.

The rural LED street lighting programme in the district entailing the installation of around 3.1 lakh LED street lights has been completed. The exercise is expected to save around 34 Million Units (MU) annually.

On Tuesday, on the occasion of Panchayati Raj Diwas, CM Chandrababu Naidu declared the East Godavari district as the first to be equipped with 100 percent LED street lighting.

Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Nara Lokesh said of the total 50 lakh LED street lights installed in the country, the state accounted for 11.61 lakh. As the 'Run Rate Mechanism' adopted by his department for implementation of the LED street lighting programme yielded good results in East Godavari, it was being adopted in other districts also.

No wonder, Andhra Pradesh already has been ranked as the best State in the implementation of energy efficiency and conservation programmes by the World Bank.
