Ranchi, March 21: Nature worshipping is practiced since the olden time in India. Such is the Sarhul Festival of Jharkhand which is celebrated by worshipping nature.
Chief Minister Raghubar Das congratulated all people of Jharkhand on the occasion of Sarhul and said that Sarhul is the nature festival. This gives us a message of nature conservation and promotion. Since ancient times, our ancestors are worshipping the nature, this is why our state is full of greenery today. The Chief Minister was speaking at the Sarhul Festival organized by the Central Sarna Committee on Albert Ekka Chowk.
He said that our responsibility is to protect the forests by giving green Jharkhand to the next generation. Dance, music and songs are the identities of Jharkhand. This is a rich heritage of our tribal culture. We are proud of our culture.
One of the most popular tribal festivals celebrated across the Jharkhand region, Sarhul festival marks the beginning of New Year. It is celebrated by the Oraon, the Munda and the Ho tribes, of the Jharkhand region. Celebrated every year in the first month of the Hindu calendar, on the third day of the moon or the fortnight of 'Chaitra', Sarhul marks the advent of the spring season or “Phaagun” and is celebrated till the month of June or “Jeth”.
Sarhul means worship of trees. Being close to nature, these tribes start the Sarhul festival with the worship of trees and other elements of nature.
