Bhubaneswar, March 19: No vehicles will run from 1st April on the roads of Odisha until they have a valid registration number! In a significant move, the Odisha Government has decided to implement a directive on new vehicle registration from April 1 as per which no vehicles can roam on the road until they have a valid registration number from the regional transport office.

As per the new rule, it has been made mandatory for vehicle dealers to withhold the delivery of vehicles to the customers from the showroom until they received their registration numbers.

Issuing the order, Transport Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi has asked the regional transport officers to inform the dealers of their respective areas to ensure that they strictly adhere to the order which will be effective from April 1 under Rule 42 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.

Notably, the move has been taken to curb the practice of dealers who generally delay sending the registration papers soon after delivery of the vehicle.

“The dealers keep the registration fees and tax revenue collected from the buyers with them and sends them to the transport office as per their whims and fancies. Sometimes, the dealers submit documents of several vehicles after two to four weeks of sale,” stated the circular issued by the state government.
