New Delhi, February 17: In an embarrassing incident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's lawyer in his defamation case has refused to appear in court after he was 'embarrassed' with the inadequate briefing. Counsel Anoop George Chaudhari has stated that inadequate briefing, casual approach is causing embarrassment to him which has prompted him to discontinue to fight the case of Kejriwal.
“In spite of being aware of Justice Endlaw’s judgment disallowing suggestions being put to the witness in civil matters, questions were prepared by you which contained numerous suggestions to be put to Jaitley.”
Chaudhari’s letter stated that “Because of the lackadaisical and casual approach in the briefing, the defendant is bound to suffer and I most certainly would not like to be a party to it.”
Interestingly, Jethmalani too had announced his withdrawal from the case by writing a letter to Arvind Kejriwal in which he had alleged that Kejriwal used even more derogatory words for the Finance Minister.
In a letter, reportedly written by Jethmalani to Kejriwal, the former accused the chief minister of using even more offensive language in private conversations while referring to Jaitley.
The rift between the two political ministers sparked when Kejriwal and the five AAP leaders issued allegedly false and defamatory statements against him and his family in connection with alleged irregularities in Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) when he was its president. However, Minister Jaitley has sought 10crore in damages and 2 years in jail.
