New Delhi, October 13: India will not face any internet shutdown, quashing fears of an internet blackout in the country amid reports of a global outage said National Cyber Security Coordinator, Gulshan Rai on Friday he also said that all arrangements are in place and there will be no internet shutdown in India as is being circulated in the media.
'Russia Today' had earlier reported that internet users across the globe may experience widespread network failures due to routine maintenance of key domain servers over the next 48 hours.
The Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) will do maintenance work, over the next 48 hours, to change the cryptographic key that helps protect the internet’s address book or the Domain Name System (DNS). The ICANN said this has been necessitated to counter the rising incidents of cyber attacks.
The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) in a statement said that the global internet shutdown is necessary for ensuring a secure, stable and resilient DNS. CRA further said, “To further clarify, some internet users might be affected if their network operators or Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have not prepared for this change.
However, this impact can be avoided by enabling the appropriate system security extensions.”
Internet users might encounter difficulties in accessing web pages in internet or making any transactions in the next 48 hours. Besides, users could face disruption in accessing the global network if they use an outdated ISP.
