This is when 5G will be launched in India

New Delhi, September 27: The Government will set up a high-level 5G committee to lay down a roadmap to launch the technology in India by 2020. “When the world will roll out 5G in 2020, I believe India will be at par with them,” said Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha.

Communications Minister Manoj Sinha today said, the government is aiming to begin 5G tele services by 2020. He said, government has constituted a high level 5G India 2020 forum with high ranked officials of Ministry, renowned experts and CEOs from the IT Industry, professors from IITs and stakeholders from Industry associations. 

The function of the forum shall be to evaluate, approve roadmap and action plans for 5G India 2020 and with Vision Mission set goals for the 5G India 2020.

5G will be significantly faster than 4G, allowing for higher productivity across all capable devices with a download speed of 10,000 Mbps urban areas and 1000 Mbps in rural locations. With greater bandwidth comes faster download speeds and the ability to run more complex mobile internet apps.

“For India, 5G provides an opportunity for industry to reach out to global markets, and consumers to gain with the economies of scale. Worldwide countries have launched similar Forums and thus, India has joined the race in 5G technologies. We are open for collaboration with them,” Sinha said.

The economic benefits from the 5G technology are also quite immense. As per the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) Committee on Digital Economic Policy, it has been stated that 5G technologies rollout will help in,

a) Increasing GDP

b) Creating Employment

c) Digitizing the economy.
