Surat, December 8: My Maliks are the 125 crore and I am accountable to them for every moment of my time because they have placed their faith in me. This was said by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday at a public meeting in Surat, Gujarat.

Addressing a public meeting in Surat, PM Modi hit out at the Congress for their misgovernance in the country for over fifty years. PM Modi stated that the BJP’s only agenda was development. The Prime Minister highlighted several aspects of Congress’ misgovernance in the state when they were in power. He spoke about troubles people faced in the region due to frequent power cuts during the Congress rule in the state.

The PM also added that it was the BJP Government that ensured continuous electricity supply. “See the Surat before Kashiram Bhai Rana became the Mayor of this city. And since Kashiram Bhai, and during the BJP Governments in Gujarat see the transformation of Surat.” PM Modi further said, “My Maliks are the 125 crore people of India. I am accountable to them for every moment of my time because they have placed their faith in me.”

“We have provided relief to those who want to buy or make their own homes. Every Indian should own a home... Our Government has made friendly policies for the textile sector and diamond industry that is big in Surat”, he said while highlighting several initiatives and schemes of the Union Government.

Narendra Modi lambasted on the Congress for using abusive language and said, “One Congress leader, who has studied in best institutions, served as a diplomat, was a Minister in Cabinet said Modi is 'Neech.' This is insulting. This is nothing but a Mughalai Mindset.”

The PM said that he never insulted anyone like this during his tenure as Chief Minister or even now as the Prime Minister. “They can call me 'Neech'- Yes, I am from the poor section of society and will spend every moment of my life to work for the poor, Dalits, Tribals and OBC communities. They can keep their language we will do our work. People will answer them for their mindset through voting on 9th and 14th”, he added furthermore.

The Prime Minister, in the end, also spoke at length about how demonetization helped wage a war against black money. He added, “Nothing can stop me from giving back to the poor what belongs to them.”

Interestingly, Gujarat will decide the fate of BJP and Congress in two phases. The first phase of Gujarat polls will be held on 9 December 2017 for 89 seats while the second phase of voting will be held on 14 December 2017 for remaining 93 seats. Counting of votes will be done on December 18 of this year.

Currently, BJP has 120 legislators in Gujarat assembly, while the opposition Congress has 47 MLAs. While the latter had won 59 seats in the last assembly polls in 2012, a dozen of its legislators had recently left the party with some of them joining the ruling BJP. The term of the 182-member Gujarat Assembly ends on January 22.
