'Darkness' leaves rural Bihar! All villages from the state now have power

Patna, December 27: Darkness is finally leaving the Bihar villages has electrified all its 39,073 revenue villages. Now, the state comes under the list of 100 percent electrified states of India. The achievement has come before the deadline 31st December set by the state.

In the last two years, Bihar with assistance from Centre has electrified 2,790 villages. Due to location constraint, at least 190 villages among them have been electrified through off-grid means, including solar power. After achieving this milestone, Bihar is looking forward to taking power to all the tolas (habitations) of each village by May next year, and all households by the end of 2018.

Excluding Bihar from the list, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Nagaland, West Bengal and Sikkim are the states where 100% villages are electrified till date.

The Government of India launched the scheme “Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana” for rural electrification in 2014. The government of India took the initiative to electrify all the villages under rural electrification scheme.
