New Delhi, October 3: Under UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable Lighting for All) schemeThe government on Tuesday achieved another milestone towards affordable power with the distribution of 26.64 crore LED bulbs with annual savings of Rs.13,840 crore till 3rd October 2017.
The numbers disclosed on the official website of Ujala Scheme states that around 34,602 million kWh of energy is saved per year which saves the cost of Rs. 13,841 crore per year. 6,928 MW of peak demand is avoided. While the total reduction in carbon dioxide emission is 2,80,27,994 t Co2 till 3rd October.
The rate of the LED bulbs had been reduced to Rs. 40.90 in April 2017 from Rs. 310 in January 2014. LED Industry has sold 41.44 Crore LED bulbs till June, 2017.
UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable Lighting for All) Scheme is India’s zero-subsidy Scheme which was launched in Melaka State of Malaysia by Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under Union Ministry of Power.
Promotion of efficient lighting, enhance awareness on using efficient equipment is the main objective of the scheme. UJALA is for reduction of electricity bills and to preserve environment. It is LED based Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP). Under it, LED Bulbs are distributed.
It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as National LED programme in January 2015. It was renamed UJALA in March 2016. Gujarat was the first state in the country to distribute two crore LED bulbs under the Centre’s UJALA Scheme.
