Thiruvananthpuram, August 29: ‘Balagokulam’, an tinitiative for imbuing patriotic skills and moral concerns among children by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Wednesday celebrated Shree Krishna Jayanti/ Gokulashtami all across Kerala with all it’s charm and devotion.
Thousands of children, dressed up as Shree Krishna, Gopika and other similar characters from Krishna’s life, were seen on the streets of each and every village and town.
Huge processions of these children, their parents and other devotees accompanied by beautiful tableaus and ’Chendamelam’ (a typical Kerala style drum set) were taken out in many places. Dr. Debashish Chattterjee, Director, IIM-Kozhikkode, inaugurated the celebrations in Kozhikkode.
Similarly, Dr. G. Mdhavan Nair, former Chairman, ISRO and Secretory Department of Space, and Dr M. C. Dileep Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Sree Sankara Sanskrit University, inaugurated the celebrations in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi respectively.
The colourful processions organised by Balagokulam on Wednesday, in connection with Sree Krishna Jayanthi, adorned the streets of Kochi.
Thousands of children, dressed up like Lord Krishna took part in the Shobha Yatra, that was organised at Ernakulam Town, Thrikkakakara, Tripunithura, Maradu, Mattanchery and Palluruthy.
The Shobha Yatra that began from Madhava Pharmacy junction was inaugurated by Shree Sankara Sanskrit University Vice Chancellor M C Dileepkumar while the other processions that began from Ayyappankavu, Thirumala Devaswom, Venkateswara Temple, Ravipuram Sree Krishna Temple and Kumareswaram Temple were inaugurated by Balagokulam adviser M A Krishnan, retired High Court Justice P S Gopinath, writer Sreekumari Ramachandran and P N Ramachandra Kamath respectively.
Traditional art forms, bhajans and band troupes lent colour to the yatra.
Large number of people lined up on either side of the roads here to see the colourful procession held in the evening.
The shobha yatras which began from various parts of the city concluded at the Ernakulathappan Temple .
In Aluva , V Harikumar, state general convenor of the Balagokulam Kerala, inaugurated the sobha yatra, which started from Perumpilly temple.
Dressed in yellow clothes, girded with golden bands, a crown on the head and a colourful peacock feather on its top, hundreds of little Krishnas lined up in the Sobha yathra, presenting a feast to the eyes of the viewers.
A few of them danced to the tunes that came out from the loud speakers.
