While Gopi left it to the party to decide, he told Malayalam TV channels, "I want to work as an MP. My stand was that I didn’t want it (Cabinet berth). I had told (the party) that I was not interested in it (Cabinet berth)."

He speculated that he "will be relieved soon". The Malayalam actor added, "The people of Thrissur know very well. I will perform very well as an MP. I want to act in films. Let the party decide."

Notably, 'A Union Minister for Thrissur, Modi’s guarantee' was one of the slogans deployed by Gopi in his election campaign. The other MoS from Kerala is senior BJP leader George Kurian.

Moreover, Gopi also has some films in his hand and acting is his passion, he does not want to leave that. For now, he is "obeying Modi's decision" as he got a call to be a part of the Council of Ministers.

Gopi had won the Lok Sabha elections by defeating Communist Party of India's V S Sunilkumar by a margin of 74,000 cotes, while senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan came third in the three-cornered fight.
