Cricket fans were enthralled once again after witnessing a nail-biting match of Gujarat Titans vs Punjab Kings IPL 2024. After Shubman Gill's 89* helped his side Gujarat Titans to set a target of 200 runs, the top order of PBKS collapsed. However, the player who took his team to a memorable win was Shashank Singh who smashed 61* in 29 balls (4x6s, 6x4s).
Now, he is the same player whose action had led to a huge controversy. At the IPL Auction 2024, Punjab Kings had won the bid for uncapped Indian Shashank Singh but it did not intend to buy the player. Upon realizing the mistake, the franchise did raise the issue with the auctioneer Mallika Sagar but was informed that the bid had already been completed, hence it cannot be reversed.

However, PBKS decided to go ahead with the buy and even welcomed Shashank Singh to their team through a post on X. Punjab Kings clarified that buying Shashank Singh was always in their plans.
"Punjab Kings would like to clarify that Shashank Singh was always on our target list. The confusion was due to 2 players of the same name being on the list. We are delighted to have him onboard and see him contribute to our success," Punjab Kings wrote in a post on X.
