Dumka, March 4: In a horrifying development, a Brazilian woman was gang raped in Kurmahat of Hansdiha police station area in district Dumka of Jharkhand. Three people were detained and sent to custody after being presented in court. This shocking horror has sent shockwaves across the country.
Regarding this, a Jharkhand-based biker woman Kanchan Ugursandi is running a campaign for justice for the gang-rape victim and has called out the Jharkhand government and the police for letting such an incident happen under its watch.
Notably, Kanchan Ugursandi has also turned down journalist-turned-YouTuber Barkha Dutt who asked for an interview for spreading another propaganda over the gang rape of a Brazilian-Spanish woman in Jharkhand on Friday night. In a post, Kanchan wrote, “Sorry Barkha Dutt, you dialled the wrong number.”
Sharing the screenshot of the chat, Barkha Dutt asked, "Hi Kanchan was wondering if I could interview you on this terrible rape incident or if the victim/ survivor would like to speak.”
To this, Kanchan responded, “Sorry Barkha, being a woman solo rider It’s my personal aggression that you are watching through my social media posts. I know better why you want my interview regarding Dumka rape case? Sorry dear I’m not interested in providing any content for your media house/platform which will destroy the reputation of my great nation BHARAT. Please check my bio it has clearly written in bold letters “NATION FIRST”.”
She has also criticized the Jharkhand government and the Jharkhand police for not taking ay stringent action against horrifing crime.
Dumka gang rape
On Friday night, 1st March, two tourists a woman and her Spanish partner, who were on a bike-ride to India, took a halt and were staying in a makeshift tent. At around 10 PM, approximately 7 to 8 local men arrived at the location and thrashed the couple before taking turns to sexually assault her.
The woman with visible bruises on her face narrated her ordeal on Instagram in a video post in Spanish that she was raped by seven men.
“We are in the hospital, and something happened to us that we wouldn’t wish on anyone. Seven men raped me, and they have beaten us and robbed us, although not many things (were taken) because what they wanted was to rape me. We are in the hospital with the police, it happened tonight in India,” the 28-year-old Spanish travel vlogger said in her video post. The woman has almost 2 lakh followers on Instagram.
“They attacked us, beat us, put a knife to our necks and said they were going to kill us…There were seven people…,” she added. The couple sustained injuries and was taken by the police to Saraiyahat Community Health Center for treatment.
Dumka police officially announced the arrest of three culprits on Sunday evening, with efforts underway to apprehend the remaining four.
The woman and her partner, 64, later took down the video from social media, claiming that the Jharkhand Police asked them not to "disturb" the investigation.
