The election witnessed a tough battle between Kuljit Singh Sandhu and Gurpreet Singh Gabi, the joint candidate of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party.

In a closely contested manner, the final tally saw Kuljit Singh Sandhu securing 19 votes, while Gurpreet Singh Gabi garnered 16 votes.

The contest took an intriguing turn as one vote was declared invalid. Despite the challenges and a canceled vote, Kuljit Singh Sandhu's victory signifies a significant political development in Chandigarh.

Notably, the re-elections for the posts of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation were held after the Supreme Court on February 20 overturned the January 30 results of the Chandigarh mayoral poll in which the BJP candidate had emerged an unlikely winner.
