London, Feb 5: Bob Blackman termed BBC's coverage of the historic Ram Mandir Pranpratishtha ceremony that took place in Ayodhya on Jan 22 as "biased". In the British Parliament Blackman said that the British Royal Family's mouthpiece is accountable to provide "a decent record of what is going on across the world". It should be noted that newsbharati was among the few media pieces who
took a stand against BBC's 'biased' reporting of such a historic day;
Speaking in the UK Parliament,
Bob Blackman said the BBC reported the historic incident taking place at the site of destruction of a mosque, neglecting the fact that it had been a temple for more than 2,000 years. "Last week in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, the Ram Mandir was consecrated. This was of great joy to Hindus across the world as being the birthplace of Lord Ram," Blackman said.
"Very sadly, the BBC, in their coverage reported, of course, that this was the site of the destruction of a mosque, forgetting the fact that it had been a temple for more than 2,000 years before that happened and that the Muslims had been allocated a five-acre site on which to erect a mosque adjacent to the town," he added.
The MP further asked other parliament members to "allow time for a debate in government time on the impartiality of the BBC and its failure to provide a decent record of what is actually going on all over the world." Later, in a post on X, the Parliamentarian said the constituents have raised concerns surrounding the BBC's biased reporting of the Ram Mandir. He said that, as an avid supporter of the rights of Hindus, "this article has caused great disharmony." "The BBC must be able to provide a decent record of what is going on across the world," he said.
BBC's 'biased' reporting of Ram Lalla's Pranpratishthapana
The BBC published an article titled, "Ayodhya Ram Mandir: India PM Modi inaugurates Hindu temple on razed Babri mosque site". BBC in its article mentions that "Many Hindus believe the Babri mosque was built by Muslim invaders on the ruins of a temple where the Hindu god was born." In an attempt to brand Indian Muslims as 'victims' of so-called 'Hindu atrocities', BBC mentioned that the Pran Pratishthapana event has evoked fear and painful memories among Muslims in Ayodhya.
BBC tried to propagate that the tale of Ramayana is based on the Hindu Fantasy world and the extension of Ram Janmbhoomi Andolan is where fantasy meets fanaticism. They further invited Arfa Khanum Sherwani, who is reputed as a pseudo-secular journalist, as an esteemed speaker for the Prime Time discussion. Arfa Sherwani went on saying that India is not a democracy but a 'theocratic state'.
