Ludhiana, Feb 28: In yet another shocking development regarding Hindu temples, some unknown miscreants vandalized a Hindu temple including Shivlinga on Tuesday located on the Delhi National Highway near the village of Sahnewal, in Ludhiana, Punjab. An FIR was registered at the Sahnewal police station.
The miscreants broke a total of 14 idols with sharp weapons and uprooted the Shivlinga. Several images of the broken idols went viral on social media. The images reveal that the miscreants severed the heads of several idols.
According to reports, the temple priest arrived and found the locks on the doors to be broken. He stumbled on the gruesome scene with the ‘Shivling’ uprooted with crowbars. He immediately informed the temple committee members. The committee members reached the spot, saw the situation and immediately informed the police of Sahnewal police station.
In the images, one can see the Shiva temple was destroyed and the idol of Maa Durga was broken.
The attackers have not been identified as there are no CCTV cameras installed in the temple. The police are analyzing the footage from CCTV cameras installed in factories and other buildings on the highway.
FIR registered
An FIR was registered at Sahnewal police station that includes charges of hurting religious sentiments. Members of Hindu outfits staged a protest in the morning to seek the arrest of the culprits. If the accused could not be arrested, the Hindu outfits have warned of staging protests and handing over damaged idols to the commissioner of police and deputy commissioner as a mark of protest.
Rajiv Tandon, chairman of Shiv Sena Punjab, said the matter came to light when the priest of the temple reached there. Inspector Guljinder Singh, SHO of Sahnewal police station, confirmed the FIR. He said they were scanning CCTV footage to identify the accused.
