In yet another controversial move highlighting the perceived anti-Indian stance of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), a recent advertisement by DMK Minister Thiru Anita Radhakrishnan has stirred a storm of criticism.
The advertisement, prominently featured in leading Tamil dailies on February 27th, showcased a rocket bearing the Chinese flag.

The advertisement published by the DMK Minister features big pictures of PM Modi and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin and a rocket with the Chinese flag between them. It also features the CM's son Udhayanidhi Stalin. The ad is apparently for the new ISRO rocket launch site in Kulasekarapattinam town in Thoothukudi district, where PM Modi is laying the foundation stone.

Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai, denouncing it as "a manifestation of DMK’s commitment to China and their total disregard for our country’s sovereignty."

He further alleged that it was because of DMK that the Satish Dhawan Space Centre is in Andhra Pradesh and not in Tamil Nadu, despite the southernmost state being the ISRO's first choice.

“DMK, a party fighting high on corruption, has been desperate to paste stickers ever since the announcement of ISRO’s second launch pad in Kulasekarapatinam was released,” Annamalai wrote on his social media platform X. Further criticising DMK, he said the “amount of desperation only proves their attempt to bury their past misdeeds, but we must remind them that DMK was why the Satish Dhawan Space Centre is today in Andhra Pradesh and not Tamil Nadu.”

“When the 1st launch pad of ISRO was conceptualised, TN was the first choice of ISRO. TN CM Thiru Annadurai, who could not attend the meeting because of severe shoulder pain, deputed Mathiyazhagan, one of his ministers, for the meeting,” he said.

“ISRO officials were kept waiting for a long, and Mathiyazhagan was finally brought to the meeting in an “inebriated state” & was incoherent throughout the meeting. And, this was the treatment our country’s space programme received 60 years ago,” he said.

In a sardonic denouement, the episode serves as yet another instance where the DMK's actions seem to echo an affinity for China over India.

While India surges ahead with its space endeavors, the DMK's choice to feature the Chinese flag in its advertisement paints a vivid picture of where its loyalties lie. In the face of India's remarkable achievements, the DMK's obvious preference to China leaves one pondering: Are they truly committed to India's progress, or are they inadvertently advocating for a different, more distant ally?
