General Elections results in April and June 2024 were a lukewarm victory for the BJP which went with the ‘sabka saath sabka vikas’ narrative in letter and spirit. Opinion surveys of mainstream media outlets projected a decisive victory for the BJP and its coalition, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). However, the BJP won 240 seats, down from the 303 it had secured in 2019, and lost its singular majority in the Lok Sabha, although the NDA overall secured 293 of the house's 543 seats.
There is no doubt that in the last ten years a lot has been achieved by India as a nation-state internally as well as internationally under BJP central Government with a strong and focused leadership of PM Narendra Modi. He got more accolades from abroad than from his countrymen. After working so hard as a team the electoral results were dismal though Narendra Modi became Prime Minister for the third time in a row – yet it was not a thumping majority. I am sure if you put yourself in his shoes, you would feel let down too. He too is a human- strong though- he must have had that feeling as well.
It was a defeat for Bharat as a nationResults were not at all on the expected lines by the people of India- though they had themselves voted in this massive electoral exercise. Therefore ‘we the people of India’ had let themselves down and in the heart of hearts there was a feeling of regret- ‘yeh hamne kya kar dala’ pinched every Indian heart- at least most. Many people especially the intellectual class the ‘buddhi jives’ and those supporting the opposition, denied this but let that rest in peace. Though the opposition was pleased that their negative campaign against the BJP had been a success. There was a sudden enthusiasm in the opposition who thought that they had finally arrived and it was the end of Modi Magic.
‘The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing.’ Blaise PascalI believe that the Hindus who have been nudged and pushed by Hindus themselves also finally got their own slap on their face. It appeared to be a self-inflicted injury and most Hindus regretfully said ‘hum nahi sudharenge’- we will never mend our ways.
Impact of Recent Foreign Affairs on Indian PsycheWith massive internet penetration and a smartphone in almost every hand- rich or poor, urban or rural, everyone gets information in real-time. Television has reached almost every household and with a good power supply every family knows about wars in Gaza, Ukraine and now very recently in Bangladesh. Visuals are so impactful that you feel you are in a war zone.
Persecution of Hindus was a statistical figure till now for Hindus in India but Bangladesh which we ourselves liberated in 1971 and gave them a nation on a platter turned hostile against us and was ready to embrace its own enemy aka Pakistan and all of a sudden started burning Hindu temples, murdering Hindus blatantly. They didn’t even spare ISKON as an organization which has its presence across the world and is a peace-loving community of Hindus inspired by the teachings of Sri Krishna ‘What is going on’ was on most Indian Minds- a citizens can only sulk and Government was and is still on a slippery slope and with little clarity of what could be the road ahead. A deep state of the West is in full swing to take a shot at India which is chugging along as the fastest-growing economy while the west is struggling for survival.
But Ram Krishan Leela hai Nirali. If you link the two mentally, Ayodhya Ram mandir and Krishan Bhagwan through ISKON is a massive psychological combo – as the two happened in rapid succession.
International relations and geopolitics are not a cup of tea for a common man but he does have common sense in abundance and knows the pulse of the planet in general and knows which side the wind sock is pointing!
If there can be Muslim and Christian countries, why can't there be a Hindu country?
Ravi Kishan Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha
Batenge to katenge To wake up Hindu samaaj at large which was fed with a sad narrative of ‘holier than though Ahimsa lover, and gods own creation’ by the government for first 60 years of our independence- was seen as an impossible task even for fully awake Hindus too. After a surgery under General Anaesthesia the surgeon can pat a patient vigorously on his cheeks to wake him up- which he does. But to wake up a Hindu a pat will not work- may be a kick is required. ‘Unite as people call’ - was landing on deaf years for centuries. Therefore, a slogan ‘Batoge to katoge’ was the final wakeup call given in the most straight forward manner as Bhagwan Sri Krishan nudged Arjun in Bhagavat Gita. This along with happenings in the neighbouring nations possibly was a painful jab in the arm which worked. Along with a guilt of letting down themselves in June during general elections there was a feeling of regret in the masses.
All religions speak for themselves; then why only Hindus need to carry the cross of ‘being accommodative’? was a self-awakening call.
Results reflect a changeHaryana assembly elections in the recent past gave a resounding victory to BJP and allies- lot of people especially the left liberals and opposition called it a ‘Push towards Hindutva’. Now the counter call is ‘so what’? Hindus now say enough is enough we are proud of being a Hindu and we are now united.
Maharashtra is a repeat and a landslide victory for Hindus and BJP with its allies. RSS has played its part and has made the public smell the coffee and jolt them out of their deep slumber and think in their own interest as a society.
Maharashtra assembly election voting percentage jumped from 61.04 % in 2019 to 66.05 in 2024 a mere increase of 5 % mostly attributed to Hindu swing vote. If this is replicated- and why not the tide will turn entirely in favour of Bharat. Hindus need to keep shaking each other so that deep slumber does not hit them again. “Bhai bade mushkil se hosh main aye ho- jagte raho- jagte raho”
“The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep. “- Robert Frost
The opposition tried every trick in the book or out of the book like trying to divide/demoralise the army by making noise against the ‘Agniveer’ scheme. This time Goebbels was proven wrong- they lied a hundred times about magnifier and ‘constitution khatre main hai’ bogey, but it didn’t become a truth with the people of India. The opposition had no qualms and was ready to destroy our nation just to seize power.
The road ahead
With a population close to 100 crore Hindus in Hindustan is a force to reckon with. We have all read the story of a father demonstrating to his five sons the strength of a bundle of thin sticks as against each one separated from the bundle. It is a great beginning which needs celebrations of heart.
I think at last Hindus have revisited this philosophy of unity taught in schools to each and every child.
The undercurrentA very senior Journalist Bhau Torsekar the other day on a podcast – a few days before Maharashtra assembly elections categorically said that there was a ‘Hindu undercurrent’ which was palpable in Maharashtra rural and urban areas both. People say Maratha will survive only if Hindu survives! He was bang on when he said you will be shocked with the results in favour of BJP.
This undercurrent should remain and propel across the country like a wild fire as a ‘high voltage Hindu Current’. It should be akin to KBC show where host Amitabh Bachchan says ‘Taliyan bajtee rehni chahiye’.
The people who matter should not let this enthusiasm amongst Hindus dampen- in fact they must create a strategy to take this unity forward by creating a psychological force multiplier to resonate across the country- strike when iron is hot and hot it is.
The boomerang effect
As a corollary I would like to mention that Bangladesh unrest was against all the minorities, like Christians, Sikhs and Buddhists, along with Hindus who are collectively ‘Kafirs or non-believers’ for Bangladesh majority Muslims. They have put all the other religions in one basket.
Cost to India of liberating Bangladesh was very steep for us especially the armed forces. We captured 93,000 Pakistani soldiers but lost close to 4000 soldiers in this fight. And thousands more wounded. Looking at it positively our losses are vindicated by actions of Bangladesh which has united Bharat especially the Hindus who have been jolted out of their deep sleep. No cost is heavy to awaken a sleeping giant! So thank you Bangladesh- now go take a walk.
Though Christians are just 2.4 percent and Sikhs a micro minority with 1.8% of Indian population, they it seems have also collectively demonstrated solidarity. This is an opportunity to get them into the positive fold too. 2.4 plus 1.8 =4.2% which is a big swing voter. Every drop counts.
