New Delhi, Jan 31: After the daughter of Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, Suranya Aiyar, said she would stand against the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha, the resident’s welfare association in Delhi’s Jangpura Extension has issued a notice to her and her father, seeking an apology for "creating tension and hatred".

In the notice, the RWA not only sought an apology from Suranya but also urged Mani Shankar to condemn his daughter’s actions. Furthermore, RWA urged Suranya to move out of the colony if she thought what she had done was right.

The letter signed by Dr Kapil Kakar, President, Jangpura Extension RWA, asked them to move out to another residential colony, in case they believed what they did was correct.

"We do not appreciate a resident rant which may disturb the peace in the colony or hurt religious sentiments of the residents. In case you think what you have done in protesting against the consecration of Ram mandir at Ayodhya, we would suggest you to kindly move out to another colony where people and RWAs can turn blind eye to such hatred," it said.

RWA urged her that instead of ranting on social media, she should have approached the court against the verdict in favour of Hindus and the Ram Mandir.

RWA said, "What Ms Aiyar said through social media was unbecoming of an educated person, who should have understood that the Ram Mandir was being built after 500 years and that too after 5-0 Supreme Court verdict. You might take the cover of freedom of speech but please remember as per Supreme Court of India freedom of speech cannot be absolute," it added.

"We request you to kindly follow the norms of a good citizen and do not provoke anyone by creating hatred and mistrust amongst people,” the letter added.

Calling it a ‘hate speech act’ Dr Kakar said it was their responsibility to ensure cordial relations between all residents. “A hate speech and act by a resident like you, Ms Aiyar, for announcing a 3-day fast, in a peace-loving locality where most residents inhabiting here came from Pakistan after losing all their wealth and fortune, is highly unfortunate,” the letter read.

What Suranya Aiyar about the RWA's notice?

In a Facebook post, she said, "My statement to the Press and Public. I believe there is a television story about my fast. First, the relevant Residents Welfare Association is from a colony where I do not live! Secondly, I have decided for the moment not to speak to the media as right now the media in India is only spreading toxicity and confusion. You all know me. I have studied, worked and done activism with people of all political backgrounds for nearly half a century now in India. So I leave my work here on my Facebook and You Tube pages for you to think for yourselves. I am going to try and avoid a media circus as I believe that we all in India deserve better. Let us stop abusing each other and try some thinking instead. Jai Hind!"

What had Suranya Aiyar said on Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha?

Prior to the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha, Suranya Aiyar ranted over the Ram Mandir inauguration. She began a fast on 20th January in protest against Pran Pratishtha and ended it on 23rd January. She had expressed solidarity with Muslim citizens and denouncing what she described as acts done in the name of Hinduism and nationalism.
