Recently, Munawar Faruqui, who mocked Hindus & Godhra massacre through his so-called stand up comedy, has been made the winner of the "reality show" Bigg Boss 17. Soon after taking home the trophy, Rs 50 lakh, and a Hyundai Creta car, he celebrated his victory on the streets of Mumbai’s Dongri wherein thousands of people had gathered to get his glimpse. This enthusiastic welcome has sparked criticism from netizens, questioning whether such a reception is appropriate for an individual with Faruqui's controversial history. Don't know what it is, here are the much-needed details you should know especially for those who are glorifying him.
A Controversial Stand-Up Comedian
Munawar Faruqui, under the guise of stand-up comedy, had mocked the 2002 Godhra massacre where 58 Hindus returning from Ayodhya were burnt alive by a Muslim mob. In a part of the clip that has now gone viral on social media, one can hear him refer to the carnage as a fictional film ‘directed’ by Amit Shah and ‘produced’ by RSS. Moreoever, he has also passed derogatory remarks against Bhagwan Shri Ram and Sita Maa. After outrage by Hindus over his mockery, his shows were cancelled in several cities. Taking advantage of such situation, he then played a victim card due to which many started to feel "sorry" for him and hit headlines as well as became a star overnight. However, no one pointed his offensive remarks against Hindus and Hindu gods and weren't addressed.
Cheated many girls
The stand-up comedian’s personal life has always been a subject of discussion after he came on the show. While he entered, he was already dating a girl named Nazila but his cheating scandal came out when a contestant named Ayesha Khan came on the show. She claimed that Munawar made false promises to her. Munawar admitted his mistakes and apologized, but Ayesha alleged that he had cheated multiple girls. Despite being divorced with a son from his first marriage, Munawar played the victim card again, garnering support and winning the reality show.
"I feel very embarrassed with all this. It is something I am not proud of. I never made my break-up with Nazila public. My love life has nothing to do with the game. Nobody who comes here is a saint, we are celebrities. Things from our personal life are the crux of the show, no one here has led a whitewashed life. The mistakes I have made, I feel genuinely sorry, I even compromised on my game because I had that regret when Ayesha came in. I will handle things once I go out," he had said in a press conference.
Isha Malviya, who was bashed left, right and centre over personal relationships on the show, had questioned what would have happened if a girl was there in place of Munawar Faruqui? Would people have sided the same way with the girl? she had asked. She also said that whatever mistakes Munawar has committed fans are like "Munawar Bhai ne kuch bhi kiya, Munawar bhai ache hai wo hume pata hai".
Even director Rohit Shetty, who had appeared on the show and posed some serious contestants schooled Munawar for teaming up with Ayesha and dragging Nazila’s name on the show. Rohit said, “Jo bhi tha aap dono ke beech, Ayesha Khan aur aapke beech. Jo dusra naam hai wo main nahi isiliye lena chahunga kyunki mujhe aisa lagta hai ki uss naam ko aapne aur Ayesha ne apne convenience ke hisaab se iss show mein zabardasti ghaseeta hai. Ek point ke baad mein aisa lagne laga ki uss bechari ka naam lekar aap apne content bana rahe ho (Whatever was there between you and Ayesha, you purposely dragged the other girl’s name for convenience. I would not like to take her name, but there was a point where it looked like you both used the poor girl’s name for content).”

Replying to this, Munawar admitted saying, “I used her name, it was not for personal reasons though.” Rohit advised Munawar, "When you go outside, you will have to answer a lot of questions. You must be concerned about your image."
There were several memes on the social media in which netizens have shared that Siddharth Shukla was the last one who deserved to win the Bigg Boss. There were other memes, too, saying that where are we heading by making people like "Munawar Faruqui" a winner. Netizens even hilariously commented that it is scripted show that is why they can! There have been also talks of Bigg Boss making a Muslim contestant a winner to balance it.
