GalaxEye, a Bengaluru-based space start-up, has collaborated with ideaForge, a drone manufacturing business, to create a bespoke radar for the armed forces that can see through dense forest and fog.
The UAV FOPEN (Foliage Penetration) Radar will assist the armed forces in meeting the special needs of missions including piercing dense foliage, providing uninterrupted surveillance while overcoming obstacles.
"Under this collaboration, ideaForge will contribute its expertise in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology, skillfully blending it with GalaxEye's state-of-the-art Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology," stated a statement issued by GalaxEye on Tuesday.
It was stated that seeing under vegetation and through fog was one of the security forces' needs.
"We are excited to partner with GalaxEye to develop cutting-edge solutions in aerial surveillance and mapping, which will greatly enhance the capabilities of our security forces and aid them in their endeavours to guard the nation against existing and future threats," said Ankit Mehta, CEO of ideaForge.
According to the statement, this technology will considerably improve the capacity to detect unlawful activities, monitor the movement of any unauthorized personnel, enable counterinsurgency operations, and track other criminal operations.
According to the company, this Foliage Penetrating UAV Radar system will overcome obstacles such as clouds, fog, smoke, mist, camouflage nets, and dense tree-canopy foliage, which frequently impede surveillance missions.
The agreement also calls for the construction of a high-resolution 3D image foliage-penetrating radar.
According to the statement, when placed on a UAV, this radar will work as an all-weather surveillance payload that can identify objects concealed by vegetation or camouflage by delivering tactical real-time ground imagery.
"Today, technology is limited to monitoring technologies." Adding this additional layer to our SAR technology, in collaboration with ideaForge's expertise, would provide security services with unrivaled exceptional benefits in complex operational scenarios with little operational effort," stated Suyash Singh, Co-founder and CEO of GalaxEye.
