Suvendu Adhikari attacks Congress

"Congress has the next election in their mind and PM Modi has women empowerment in his mind during the Amrit Kal," Suvendu Adhikari said while interacting with the media on the Women's Reservation Bill. In an attack at the Congress party, Adhikari said that Congress did not implement the Women's Reservation Bill despite being in power for "so long". However, in the Shah Bano case, Congress overturned the Supreme Court judgement by bringing about a law in Parliament, he added.

"Congress ruled for so long but did not implement this bill. In the Shah Bano case, the Congress overturned the Supreme Court judgement by bringing up a law but did not bring Women's Reservation Bill. So what the Congress is saying now is keeping the upcoming elections in mind and what Modiji is doing is for Devishakti, Narishakti," Adhikari said.

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Women’s Reservation Bill which provides for 33 per cent reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' is the first bill passed by Lok Sabha after it shifted to the new Parliament building on Tuesday. The bill was passed by a majority of the total membership of the House and by a majority of not less than two-thirds of the members of the House “present and voting”.
