In a significant development, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan has revealed that India has acquired indigenous drones with the capability to strike deep inside enemy territory.
Speaking at the North Tech Symposium in Jammu, he hinted at the country’s growing arsenal of advanced innovation, including loitering ammunition drones with an impressive range of 100-150 kilometers. This revelation underscores India’s commitment to modernizing its defense capabilities and safeguarding national security.
General Chauhan’s comments shed light on India’s investment in cutting-edge technology, particularly drones with offensive capabilities. These drones are not just for target practice; they are poised for operational use, demonstrating India’s readiness to employ them in strategic scenarios. As technology evolves, India is determined to stay ahead of the curve, integrating sophisticated drone systems into its defense inventory.
General Chauhan also addressed the growing risk of drones from neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan. He mentioned the deployment of anti-drone systems during the recent G20 summit in Delhi, which were successfully used to protect the event.
These systems were sourced from various official locations, including airbases and border areas, highlighting the armed forces’ preparedness to counter the drone menace. India’s approach is not reactive but proactive, aiming to stay one step ahead of emerging threats.
Northern Army Commander Lt General Upendra Dwivedi emphasized the continuous enhancement of counter-drone technology. As drones evolve, so do India’s countermeasures. The symposium served as a platform to explore the latest technology that can bolster India’s defenses against evolving drone threats. Common Dwivedi pointed out that since the final North Tech Symposium in May 2022, the military had procured 256 pieces of equipment, reflecting the military’s agility and adaptability in responding to emerging challenges.
