New Delhi, Sept 12: Breaking its silence on the G20 summit held in India, China said that the Delhi Declaration, which was adopted by the member nations of the group, sent a “positive signal” that the influential grouping is “working together” to promote world economic recovery and tackle global challenges.

Delhi Declaration G20 Summit positive signal China
India witnessed a huge diplomatic win after the G20 summit organized under its presidency adopted a declaration that overcame major differences on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed for ending the "global trust deficit".

Speaking for the first time after the G20 Summit, the Chinese foreign ministry spoke highly of its outcome.

“The summit adopted a leaders' declaration, which reflects China's proposition and states that the G20 would act in concrete ways through partnerships, sending a positive signal of the G20 working together to tackle global challenges and promote world economic recovery and global development,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.

India ‘stole spotlight’ to push own agenda, ‘sabotaging’ G20: Chinese think tank

However, prior to G20 Summit, a think tank affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of State Security accused India of trying to take advantage of its role as the host of the G20 Summit to promote its own agenda and harm China's interests. The comments by the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations came even as the annual two-day G20 summit commenced in New Delhi, with the notable absence of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The think tank also accused India of bringing geopolitical "private goods" onto the global stage, which it said would not only help the country to fulfill its responsibility as the host of the G20 Summit but also create further problems.

In a commentary posted on its Wechat account, the think tank stated, "In addition to causing diplomatic and public opinion turmoil, India's actions in hosting meetings in disputed territories have also 'stolen the spotlight', sabotaging the cooperative atmosphere of the G20 meeting and hindering the achievement of substantive results."

The think tank also alleged that India has been exploiting the issue of debt restructuring to criticize China, often collaborating with the United States and Western nations to amplify the "debt trap" theory. This theory concerns Beijing's provision of loans to economically disadvantaged countries for essential infrastructure projects like ports and roads.

The think tank warned that India's actions could "further exacerbate differences and divisions, impede the international community's ability to reach consensus and substantive outcomes, and ultimately harm its own international reputation and global development interests."
