BDL hands over first indigenous RF Seeker for ‘Akash Air Defence System’ to DRDO

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) handed over to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) the first Radio Frequency (RF) Seeker of Akash, a next-generation weapon system built at its newly commissioned state-of-the-art Seeker Facility Centre, on Wednesday.

Seeker is a key and technologically advanced subsystem utilized in the terminal phase of Surface-to-Air Missiles and Air-to-Air Missiles for target tracking. The RF Seeker was conceived by DRDO's Research Centre Imarat in Hyderabad and manufactured by BDL at its state-of-the-art Seeker Facility Centre in Hyderabad.
 
BDL Chairman and Managing Director, Commodore A. Madhavarao (retd.), handed over the first RF Seeker constructed at this facility to DRDO Chairman and Secretary, Department of Defence Research & Development, Dr Samir V Kamat, at a special ceremony conducted at BDL's Kanchanbagh Unit.
 
In his remarks on the occasion, Kamat remarked that the construction of the Seeker Facility Centre at the BDL has enabled India to attain self-reliance in the field of RF seeker manufacturing and has contributed significantly to the realization of the "Atmanirbhar Bharat" vision.
 
Madhavarao expressed delight in the achievement, noting that with the manufacture of RF Seeker, BDL now joins an exclusive club of enterprises globally with comprehensive competence for RF Seeker production.
 
Several high-ranking officials from DRDO and BDL attended the ceremony, including DG, MSS, U. Raja Babu, DRDL Director, G.A. Srinivasa Murthy, RCI Director Anindya Biswas, ASL Director, B.V. Paparao, BDL's Director, Finance, N. Srinivasulu, and others.
