Ranchi, Aug 11: In a shocking development, as many as 60 girl students of a residential school in Jharkhand’s Ranchi Thursday protested against the lack of basic amenities at their institution. The students from South Chotanagpur Division Residential School – all girls – sat on National Highway 33 in the Bundu area of the district, for around one-and-a-half hours claiming lack of drinking water and less number of teachers in the school.
Following this, Bundu Sub-Divisional Officer Ajay Kumar Saav promised to look into the matters seriously. Bandu SDM will take stock of the residential school and try to solve the problems of girl students.
Girl students of South Chotanagpur Division Residential School claims that there are no basic facilities like supply of electricity and water, providing food according to the menu in the hostel. Due to this, there are facing difficulties.
On hearing the news of the road blockade, Zonal Officer Rajesh Dungdung and Block Development Officer reached Mundu by evening and requested the girl students to remove the blockade, but the girl students blocking the road were adamant on their demand. However, on the assurance of fulfilling the demand, the girl students stopped protesting.
This is not the first time the students in Jharkhand are going on a warpath. In April around 100 parents and students in Latehar district demonstrated against single-teacher schools and demanded teacher postings as per the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
The protestors from 16 villages of Garu Block had assembled at the block headquarters and took out a rally with slogans: “Kya chahta Latehar? Shiksha ka adhikaar! Baalbutru ki pukaar, teacher de sarkar! (What does Latehar need? The Right to Education! The children have only one call, the government should provide teachers)”. Gram pradhans of various villages, school committee members and parents of children under the banner of Sanyukta Gram Sabha Manch Garu had also sent a letter to Chief Minister Hemant Soren underlining the education scenario.
