Veteran RSS ideologue Madan Das Devi passes away; PM Modi mourns

Pune, July 25: Madan Das Devi, former sahasarakaryavah (joint general secretary) of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), passed away in Bengaluru on Monday after a prolonged illness. He was 81.

During his seven-decade stint with the RSS, Devi served in various positions. He was also the national organizing secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
 
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of Sri Madan Das Devi Ji. He dedicated his entire life to the service of the nation. I was not only closely associated with him, but I was able to learn many things from him. May God give strength to all the workers and his family members in this moment of grief. Om Shanti.”
 
 
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Dattatreya Hosbale, sarakaryavah in their tributes said, “We have lost a senior colleague. Devi was fighting various ailments for the last many years. He took responsibility of the ABVP as sanghatanmantri for many years.”
 
Hailing from Solapur district, Devi completed his studies in Pune. He got associated with the RSS because of his elder brother Khushaldas Devi. His last rites will be performed in Pune on Tuesday in the presence of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
