According to the Paris prosecutor's office, "a piece of a finger, a fingertip it seems," was addressed to the Elysee Palace. It further stated that the police launched an investigation on Monday for a "threat of a crime or offence against an elected official."
Separately, Politico claimed, citing the French newswire AFP, that the fingertip belonged to the package's sender, who suffers from a mental illness. The grisly discovery was made by officials working for President Emmanuel Macron earlier this week.
The Elysee Palace has not yet responded to the story.
