In a tweet, the PM said, “Chandrayaan-3 scripts a new chapter in India's space odyssey. It soars high, elevating the dreams and ambitions of every Indian. This momentous achievement is a testament to our scientists' relentless dedication. I salute their spirit and ingenuity!”

However, Congress being Congress, while congratulating ISRO for the successful launch of Chandrayaan-3, the principal opposition Congress talked about history to credit itself for the feat and patted its back. The top Congress leaders also gave credit to the former prime ministers belonging to the party.

Rahul Gandhi lauded former PM Jawaharlal Nehru for dreaming of ISRO. "Today, more than a billion of us look to the sky, beaming with pride. Chandrayaan 3 is the fruit of decades of labour by the scientific community since the launch of India’s space programme in 1962, followed by the creation of ISRO in 1969. The success of this mission will make us only the fourth nation to land a spacecraft on the surface of the moon. A truly incredible feat! Congratulations to the entire team at ISRO".

Similarly, Congress general secretary in-charge of organisation K C Venugopal said, “The @isro dreamt of by Pandit Nehru, nurtured by Indira Gandhi ji and taken to great heights by Rajiv Gandhi ji and Dr Manmohan Singh ji achieves a new milestone! A proud moment for all, as we excitedly watch the #Chandrayan3 take off to conquer the moon! Jai Hind."

Congress MP and the party’s media head Jairam Ramesh also delved into the past. “The successful launch of Chandrayaan-3 is a thrilling occasion of great pride to all Indians. We also recall the successful launch of Chandrayaan-1 on October 22, 2008 and of Chandrayaan-2 on July 22, 2019. India's space programme has a long history of self-reliance and proactive support from the political leadership. INCOSPAR (Indian National Committee for Space Research) was set up in February 1962, thanks to Homi Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai. Sarabhai created ISRO in August 1969. It was his vision and later that of Satish Dhawan that gave India's space programme a unique developmental purpose.”

Taking a dig at the Congress, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya tweeted, "In their desperation to appropriate credit for the successful launch of Chandrayaan 3, the Congress claimed that it was all because Nehru had ‘dreamt’ of ISRO. Small fact is that Nehru died in May 1964 and ISRO was founded on Aug 1969. It doesn’t end there…"

He also spit facts about the initatives taken by Modi govt. "Out of 424 foreign satellites launched till date by India, 389 were launched in the last nine years, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s premiership. A mere 35 were launched before 2014."

"It is obvious that Nehru did precious little, except dream… What is worse is that no one from Indira to Manmohan took Nehru’s dream seriously…," he slammed.

With this the term "ISRO in 1969" when it was renamed to ISRO started to trend while a section of media while slamming Congress for taking credit for Chandrayaan 3.
