Turkish & Bangladeshi nationals with alleged Pak ISI links apprehended on Tripura border

On Wednesday, police arrested a Turkish national who was allegedly involved in spying for Pakistan's ISI along with a Bangladeshi national at the Ashwani border market region on the city's western borders. The Tripura Police and intelligence services are questioning him together.

The Turkish national and a Bangladeshi were apprehended by police when they were seen acting suspiciously . Jakhub Yazdanbakhsh, age 63, of Neroientzami Karaj, Iran, and Sahin Mondal, age 39, of Mirzapur, Bogra, Bangladesh, were named as the arrested persons. They were reportedly planning to cross into Bangladesh while residing in a residence in an unidentified area of Agartala.
 
Based on inputs about two persons roaming in the market, a mobile patrol team of the Amtoli Police station reached there. Police detained them and took them to police station. There they failed to provide any valid travel documents. After that, they police arrested them.
 
Mobile phones and certain Indian documents, including PAN and Aadhaar cards, that appeared to have been faked in Delhi, were found in their possession by the police. On their cell phones and among some of their contacts, the authorities have also discovered numerous images of militant organisations with a stronghold in Pakistan.
 
Jakhub stated during questioning that he travelled from Iran to India through Iraq, Turkey, Thailand, and Nepal a fortnight prior. His relatives remain in Iran. He traded dates and other dry fruits there. He travelled into Iraq illegally with the intention of getting a job in Europe, then created phoney documents in Turkey. He spent the next six to seven months in Thailand.
